Directors

The World Conference on Breast Cancer Foundation is governed by a voluntary Board of Directors. The Board is comprised of breast cancer survivors, health researchers, breast care advocates, and community representatives from Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta and Nova Scotia who are knowledgeable in breast cancer issues. The Foundation Board directs conference planning activities through international networking, sponsor relationships, and event planning contractors.

Sandra Ahenakew

Sandra Ahenakew was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1999 at the age of 35.
One year after diagnosis Sandra was tested and found to have the BRCA1 gene
mutation.

A mother of four daughters, Sandra knows the importance of early
detection.

Sandra hopes that through the sharing of her personal journey
with breast cancer she can help other Aboriginal women dealing with a cancer
diagnosis.

She has filmed a documentary about her families experience with
cancer  called “One of the One Percent: The Sandy Ahenakew Story”  and  is
the current President of Breast Cancer Action Saskatchewan in Regina.

Sandra prefers to call herself a breast cancer warrior because she knows that the
fight continues.
