WCBCF Youth Day

Background
The first World Breast Cancer Conference Youth Day was held during the 5th world conference in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 2008.  The theme for the day was Hope for Tomorrow and included breast cancer information, risk reduction and youth action activities through presentations, displays and interactive games.

“Winnipeg opened its arms to the conference participants…friendly, welcoming and the pink Winnipeg Free Press featuring a young breast cancer survivor! Impressive. I felt throughout the conference that issues for young women are starting to get on the agenda. There was also concern raised for this population at risk from attendees from around the world. This was important dialogue for future generations.” (2008 Conference Speaker’s Comment)

The program targeted high school students and youth from across Canada and beyond. Approximately 50 participants took part in the day.

“In a room full of teenagers and young adults, we discussed everything from carcinogens to cosmetic products, the environment and how to select the right bra...there is something very special about seeing young adults working towards a global cause and working for their own peers.” (2008 Conference Participant’s Comment)
